Drew Charron is a multi-instrumentalist who, due to his love of multiple genres, refuses to be pinned down to simply one. Charron’s musical background which is deeply rooted in progressive rock is evident through the intricacies of his compositions. Major elements of drums and percussion solidify his songs in a rhythmic groove, and the synth and psychedelic sounds encapsulate an otherworldly feeling around it all leading to what he has termed as ‘Prog/Psych Rhythm and Bass.’

Charron, based in Lexington, Kentucky, has been playing music for over 20 years. After co-founding the progressive metal trio, The Past, for a decade, Charron made the decision to pursue his own solo work and has been doing so for seven years now. He will be releasing his third studio album, ‘Color Collage,’ in August 2024. ‘Color Collage’ marks a shift into a more EDM realm incorporating elements of house, techno, and drum & bass into Charron’s style.

Just as Charron’s approach to music comes from multiples angles, his lyrics explore different dichotomies in life, searching to represent opposing ideals that dance and mingle with each other on topics of emotions, depression, love, and other uniquely human complexities of life. Through placing his own unique fingerprint and infusing his energy into both his compositions and his writing, Charron seeks to evoke movement and vibrations in those who hear his music, and to challenge them to explore those dichotomies within their own lives as well.

Drew has a bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration from the University of Kentucky with a focus in music history.

The track includes impressive and complex drum sounds, atmospheric electronics, and a modern attitude regarding the production of the song. Of course, Drew cannot escape from his Prog influences, and it is obvious that there are the same additional elements here (especially the synth lines) that remind me of the albums that the band Rush produced during the 1980s. Overall, I would recommend this track to listeners that are into dance music from a Prog point of view.”

Yet, sci-fi sensibilities come to the fore as Charron peppers this instrumental composition with blasts of neon keys and spacey swirls while, in true progressive fashion, breaking down the barriers of song structure and conventional arrangements, carving out an aural plane in which to evolve unfettered by reference.
